Again, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. – Matthew 19:24
Turn that frown upside down, this probably doesn’t mean you need to go sell all your “stuff”. I guarantee you though, you can’t take it with you. Loosen your grasp.
I remember years back when I was having a bad day or something wasn’t going my way. I don’t remember exactly what it was now, but I just couldn’t let something go. A friend of mine walked me into his office and told me a story about these monkeys in Africa that are being trapped by the simplest thing. A box with a nut.
A box is set out, probably something similar to a birdhouse, with a little hole in the front of it. There is a nut inside. The monkeys put their hand in the hole to grab the nut and then their little fist is stuck inside holding the nut. They won’t let go of what they have a grasp on and they are trapped. Seriously, all they need to do is LET GO of the nut to be free. Dumb monkeys.
It sounds so easy, but at times it is soooo hard. Whether its nuts, money, anger, material things, unforgiveness, fear, or whatever your “nut” may be. Just let it go. Holding on to it won’t get you anywhere. Don’t be a dumb monkey.
And you thought this was going to be about camels… so did I. 🙂
