As I sit here thinking about how Peter and James pretty much say the exact same thing about humbling oneself (to make low) – waaaait a second! Isn’t this blog today about this fun picture of Chubby Checker and the dance party album!?? Um no, well, sort of. Now where was I? Oh yeah, so I decided to start looking for limbo pictures (hello, going low, right?). This picture of the album “Limbo Party” by Chubby Checker stood out like Radar in a pack of labradors. Perfect!
I now have questions about this Limbo Party thing. Like, who thought to put the words “limbo” and “party” together? Here’s what limbo is defined as: In a state of being neglected and immobile, with no prospect of movement to a better place. Phrase Finder
Now that sounds like a dance party to me! Um, not. I liked the idea of limbo images with people going really low and wanted to tie that in with being humble – as in making ourselves low, but when you dive into the origin of a word, sometimes you will come to realize that the use of it might just be smoke and mirrors. I know for certain that I have no interest in ever being in limbo now. Being made low by being humble, yes. Humility produces fruit. Being in limbo, no, that just sounds awful.
I guess Chubby Checkers manager probably wasn’t interested in naming the album Humble Dance Grooves? Not a big seller, probably. That’s okay. We know what it means to be humble, don’t we? We can still dance to that. Let’s get that humble dance floor bigger than the limbo one. You’ll probably even see some people out there that you know.
Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up. –James 4:10 NIV
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. –1 Peter 5:6 NIV
Two things here, this James was referred to as Jesus’ brother – James– there were two disciples named James. James and James – just wanted to clarify. Getting to my point here, obviously, he was an eye witness.
Check this verse out: We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. -2 Peter 1:16 NIV
Here are two men that knew Jesus. Knew. Jesus. If they say to be humble, then I will strive to be humble. Know what’s even better!? The promise the He will lift us up. All in due time.
Now, let’s dig in…
