Seriously, my scale needs to get back to school and catch up on its math. It’s just wrong.
I woke up today thinking, man, I feel good! I can’t believe all the food, ice-cream and chips I have been indulging on this past week have done me SO good! I don’t even feel like I’ve gained an ounce… My scale was just OFF by FOUR pounds this morning. Poor scale, he must have been up too late last night because his calculations are certainly a bit cloudy today. Maybe he’ll do better tomorrow…
YIKES! Anyone heard of gluttony!? It’s that thing when you are presented with a box of Krispy Kreme donuts – and they are HOT – and well, I don’t need to go any further.
I have to guess that gluttony is never a “hot” topic. What does that conversation look like?
Hey, how have you been lately? Kids good?
Yeah, yeah…
Work going okay? yeah? Cool.
Summer plans? Going out of town? Oh, Israel? Cool! Love that place…
Super, yeah, so I’ve been reading a bit and catching up on gluttony… Mmm hmm.. Yup.
Now, that’s pretty funny!!! I love when I can make myself laugh out loud 🙂
Gluttony is real people. It’s not just about food. From what I have been reading in the truest word – The Bible – gluttony is about overindulgence in pretty much any thing. Well, that’s just not fun, you say! What about like, shopping? Or key lime pie!!? Or having 47 animals? I believe gluttony to be anything that takes you away from God – as in, maybe not trusting that He WILL supply you with more of something or that He will provide you with – news flash – what you actually need. He WILL supply us with what we need – that may not be Krispy Kremes 😦 but hey, He certainly isn’t running low on Manna! See Exodus 16
You know, here’s the deal, I am in awe of cotton (the actual plant). I just can’t get past how the God of the Universe gives us something like – cotton. It’s so simple that most people probably don’t even give it a second thought (or even a first). It’s cotton, Jen. Nope! It’s provision. It grows from the ground! We have been given tools to use in this world that we just don’t take time to recognize anymore. Just look down, I GUARANTEE you that you are wearing something made of cotton. Cotton! I told you that God was going to allow me to see things more beautifully, didn’t I? Today it’s cotton.
Take time to sit outside early in the morning and listen to creation. The birds do not want for food, your bird feeder certainly won’t make them or break them. They are cared for by their Creator. It’s His provision.
25Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28And why do you worry about your clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. -Matthew 6:25-34
Beautifully simple….
